Visitors to Crestone and the Stupa should be aware that Curt’s Olde Country Store is now out of business. Groceries are available elsewhere in town, but Curt’s had the only gas pump.
The closest gas stations now are in Hooper (30 miles from town if you’re coming from the south) and Poncha Springs (53 miles if coming from the north.) There are also gas stations in Alamosa and Saguache.
Visitors should also note that the “Mine Road” access to the stupa is nearly impassable now during the springtime snow melt. The best access is to park at the Tranquil Way cul-de-sac. The hike to the Stupa from there is about a mile and a half.
