Losar-la Tashi Delegs!
Happy New Year of the Water Snake!
Many Dharma practitioners practice certain rituals on certain days to make use of the astrological forces of the sun-moon cycle to enhance that particular ritual. The Tibetan calendar was designed with this in mind, and many of us practice Guru Rinpoche feast on the 10th of the Tibetan month, etc. As sophisticated and amazing as the Tibetan calendar is, though, it wasn’t designed to be used all around the world in different time zones. Some of us who have relied on calendars calculated in India may have been up to a day or more late in tuning into the exact spot of the lunar cycle to enhance our practice.
Dharma practitioner and astrological software entrepreneur Michael Erlewine has been researching this topic for more than 20 years, consulting with learned lamas and experts in Tibetan astrology.
Michael has published a book with background explanations and a 150-year practice calendar with accurate lunar cycle event times.
As a New Year’s gift to dharma practitioners everywhere, with Michael’s permission, we have created a Google calendar using his data and made it available on our website. This calendar makes the practice times easy to view. Also on that page is a link to subscribe to the calendar in your own google account. Once subscribed, you can see the calendar in your own time zone, customize colors, and merge it with your other calendar(s).
Enjoy!
